Fire Prevention for 3-5 year olds

 9-1-1 for Emergencies

There's a special phone number that people can always dial for help in emergencies. That number is 9-1-1. We only use 9-1-1 for emergencies, not like running out of cookies, or losing your toy. This would be if mom or dad were sick and needed to see the doctor.
 Preparation

Every family has a family meeting place. Every family's place is different, so it is important to know where your meeting place is. It is outside your home, where all your family members know, like a mailbox or tree, or the end of your driveway.
 Smoke Alarms

When the smoke alarm sounds, it's important to get out and stay out. That means we don't we wait ---even for our favorite toy. If it's smoky, we stay low and go.
 Escape Drill

It's important to practice your escape drill, so test your smoke alarm to hear how it sounds. Have the whole family walk to the family meeting place. Practice again and try a different route.
 Never Hide from Fire

We never hide from fire. We never hide from firefighters. Firefighters wear special clothes to work in. These clothes look strange. Firefighters, just like Halloween, wear masks. This can make them sound funny, sometimes like Darth Vader. But firefightsers are always trusted friends.
 No Land Lines

Almost half of homes do not have a telephone. Cell phones may report an exact location, within 1/2 mile of where you really are. That's one reason it's important for children to know their address. Just like people have a first name and a last name, addresses have a first part and a second part.
